Eric

So I’ve been working with WordPress for a long time and dare I say I almost have an unhealthy relationship with it. Sure I’ve had fun dabbling with others, namely Drupal and Joomla, but somehow I always end up back at WP. Press, you’ve been a good friend, but now I think I need to start my own journey.

I met Ruby about six months ago. I had heard of Ruby- about her gracefulness and smooth coding styles. About her flexibility and all that she had made. I was hooked. The relationship started off well. She pretty much provided for my basic need. But the more intimate we got, the harder it was for me to do things easily. She wanted gems.  Lots of them. And she never really made up her mind if she wanted to have something done from a script or a command line. The more I worked with her, the more she slowed me down. From special servers and the long processes to the incompatibility with many servers. It just wasn’t working out. Her needs were just outweighing her good.

“But wait!” she pleaded. “I have more to offer, I have Rails! They will guide you and keep you on track!”

Never having used a framework before i thought I’d give her one last chance.  I got excited again. Problem was, Rails is just like Ruby- needing tons of gems and leaving a lot of unneeded command line work to be done. When she wasnt looking, I did some checking on Rapid Development frameworks. I found one name that stood out in particular. Cake. She spoke my native PHP, and had more comfort food for me than Ruby ever could.

I ditched Ruby and did a little dance with Cake. Wait, this requires terminal use as well? What’s going on with this? Seriously! And where the hell is the documentation for how to use this? Donkey Balls!

In a bout of  frustration, I let Cake know our tango was over. Dissapointed in my last couple flings being over I sauntered over to the nearest cold brew. Brooding where I had gone wrong I started chatting with anyone who would listen. From behind I heard a voice saying “I might have the answer.”

“Go on.” I replied.

“I have a solution that requires no command line work. It’s robust, and small. It speaks PHP.”

I snorted it was to good to be true. “But the documentation must be crap.”

“Ahh, but it does exist. Hi, I’m Codeigniter.”

CI really was everything she said and more. Documentation, PHP, No command line work and support network like I had never seen before. She plays well with others and has an answer for my every question.

With her by my side, and a little CSS in my pocket I think the couple of new sites I’m building and revamping my name branded site all will be well in my web of the wide world.
